Sample of Time Code Conversion Unit (TCCU) was successfully tested at SUNPP Unit 1 on August 4-7, 1998.
TCCU is a specific unit designed for reception of time signals from GPS interface equipment, generation and transfer of time signals in specific format onto existing I&C systems. TCCU implementation on Power Unit with GPS interface equipment allows to provide time synchronization of operation of the existing and newly connected computation systems and to refuse from presently applied synchronizer ×7-43.
The necessity of application of alternative synchronization devices is defined by the following reasons:
In a number of organizations life-time of synchronizers ×7-43 expired or will expire in the nearest future.
Presently, synchronizers ×7-43 are not manufactured and their maintenance is not provided.
The expediency to synchnonize computer devices from GPS with the use of TCCU is defined by the following:
Presently, there are no available adequate devices capable to replace synchronizer ×7-43.
GPS is constant and reliable source of time signals. As a rule, in field of vision several satellites are available.
High accuracy of time support (typical error 0.5 õ 10 -8 sec.).
Availability of several companies providing with the reliable antennas and unified GPS interface modules.
Simple construction and small dimensions of antenna.
Wide range of GPS interface modules designed for their installation in various computational devices (industrial and office PCs, workstations based on Sun PCs, including stations with VME crates).
GPS interface module automatically changes its external synchronization mode (GPS antenna) for autonomous mode in case of GPS satellite communications failure.
Availability on GPS interface module of various standard electrical output interfaces applying standard IRIG B data transfer format.
Possibility to synchronize all GPS interface modules installed in various Power Unit I&C systems from one of them with antenna through standard interface.
TCCU allows simple connection of the existing systems to GPS.
Possibility to apply basic GPS interface equipment and its unified output interface for synchronization of newly developed or updated systems.
