Information Bulletin No. 2
Safety Parameters Display System (SPDS)
Factory acceptance tests (Phase 1 preliminary tests) of the KhNPP-1 SPDS were conducted at the Consortium Westron facilities in June, 1998. The tests gave quite a good results. The SPDS composition:
The cabinet enclousers were manufactured by the Hartron-Plant Co. (a Hartron Co. branch). The cabinet enclosure applied for the purpose of Distributed Computer System "Vulkan" is actually the enclosure that earlier had earlier been developed by Hartron-Enkos Co. for the purpose of NPP Information & Computing System "Veres", but then this enclosure was given the required modification so it would meet the purpose of DCS "CIS Vulkan". The SPDS was delivered to the KhNPP at the end of this June and at the moment the required start-up and tuning activities are being carried our at the site.
Modernization of Computing & Information System
In compliance with the Contract on the Power Unit-1 CIS Reconstruction (also updating of the related equipment) concluded in 1995 between the South-Ukraine NPP and Consortium Westron the earlier existing CIS "Uran-2M" and Turbine-Generator A701-3 monitoring system were replaced for the developed by Westron the Distributed Computer System "CIS Vulkan". Interagency acceptance testing of the DCS "CIS Vulkan" was conducted within the period of June 16-18, 1998. These tests were performed following the direction from the side of the Ukrainian State Nuclear Power Generating Co. "Energoatom" (the Energoatom order No.209 of June 5, 1998). The CIS Vulkan is a new generation of the system intended for modernization of the Computing & Information Systems "Uran" and "Titan" earlier installed at the NPP Power Units equipped with VVER-1000 type reactors. The DCS "CIS Vulkan" meets all the up-to-date requirements on systems of the class and provides to the NPP Main Control Room Operators additional possibilities in exercising monitoring of NPP Power Unit operating conditions. The DCS "CIS Vulkan" installed in the SU NPP Power Unit 1 also realizes the functions of Turbine-Generator monitoring and of Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS). The Acceptance Commission came to the conclusion that the SU NPP Power Unit 1 CIS built on the bases of the developed by Westron DCS "CIS Vulkan" is an up-to-date CIS which meets all the Technical Assignment requirements on reconstruction of the earlier existing CIS. At the moment the SU NPP Power Unit 1 is undergoing testing before the Power Unit restart after a pre-planned outage (scheduled preventive repairs).
Factory acceptance test of the SPDS S/W&H/W
The scheduled FAT of the SPDS S/W&H/W intended for Chernobyl NPP Unit-3 was conducted on June 29-30, 1998 at the Consortium Westron facilities. Funds for the Project were allocated by the USA Department of Energy. The USA Westinghouse is the Project Contractor (Manufacturer and Supplier of the required completing parts). Functional design and software were mutually developed by Westinghouse (USA) and OKSAT NIKIET (Russia, Moscow) (OKSAT NIKIET is branch Co. of Research & Development Institute of Power Engineering (Moscow)). Consortium Westron developed technical documentation on the hardware, also performed assembling and testing of the SPDS equipment. The SPDS testing was performed in total correspondence with the FAT Plan. The FAT results proved correspondence of the SPDS S/W&H/W to the Techncial Assignment requirements. Shipment of the SPDS equipment to Chernobyl NPP is scheduled for this early August.
